Welcome to the Pandemic Kitchen

Pandemic Kitchen is a newsletter by me, Dr. Jacob Dean. I’m a food and travel writer and psychologist based in New York and my work has appeared in publications such as The Washington Post, VICE (including Munchies), Serious Eats, Taste, The Takeout, the Michelin Guide, Fodor’s Travel, and a variety of other places.

Why subscribe?

This newsletter is an opportunity for me to tell stories that haven’t found a home at other publications (which is code for “editors didn’t think they’d generate enough clicks.”) This will include photo essays, breakdowns of why recipes are great or terrible, cookbook and cookware reviews, original, unpublished travel stories (with photos!), industry analysis (ie, explanations about why formal food journalism is falling apart), and a host of other content.

Subscribe to get full access to the newsletter and website archives. Never miss an update!

Stay up-to-date

Subscribing also means you won’t have to worry about missing an issue. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox, and you can unsubscribe whenever you’d like.

Join the crew (and let me know what you think)

Signing up for Pandemic Kitchen means you can comment on stories and be part of a community of people who share your interests. Love an article? Let me know! Hate an article? Also let me know! (But please be nice.)
